(Carpool Departure: 05:00 PM @ Petro Canada Highway 1 / Highway 22)
The intention of this trip is to climb
Athabasca, either by the AA Col or the Ramp
Route on the Saturday - setting off very early
to get the best snow conditions. We will climb
as 2 rope teams, but we will be in close
communication and take the same route.
Of course this is entirely weather
dependent, and we may do something entirely
This is part of the Alpine Review and you
will also have to register for this
Prior to the trip we will head out on a
scramble to get to know people, and there will
be a crevasse rescue practice night beforehand
too when people are confirmed on the trip
All participants will be pre-screened, so
please email your alpine / mountaineering /
climbing experience. If you don't get in
touch, you will not get on the trip
Required Items to Bring:
Ice axe, crampons with anti-balling plates,
harness, helmet, headlamp, glacier gear (inc.
crevasse rescue kit), warm clothing, drink. A
detailed kit list will be sent when you're
accepted on the trip.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Meals/snacks/drinks, ski pole, extra clothing,
small personal 1st aid kit and any required
How to Get There:
Carpool Departure Time:
Petro Canada Highway 1 / Highway 22
Meet at the North / Cochrane end - we will also
organize a Calgary car pool closer to the time.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non- recoverable costs).
The Calgary Section of the Alpine Club of Canada is a not for profit / flow through course and trip provider. We organize courses and trips based on member demand and divide any costs that we incur between event attendees. In other words, we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
