Itinerary: |
Short notice but good news; Avy conditions appear to be stabilizing after the warm spell and snow is in the forecast.
Let’s tour Tryst Lake Chutes above this picturesque Kananaskis Country lake on Saturday.
This is an easy, friendly paced tour, 3.5 km in with 450 m elevation gain.
The plan is to give any Slackers a lazy lunch soaking up the scenery in a safe spot up top, while any Lappers lap lines to their hearts’ content. All are welcome.
Safety first! With a bit of coordination any Slacker and Lapper sub-groups can be in constant visual contact on these slopes. The runs are only 100 m vertical, but are of about 40° incline and are pretty sweet.
Let’s take the winter trail up through the trees. This avoids the summer trail which crosses a big tall avalanche path with out-of-sight avy start-zones. If conditions are touchy we can always follow a plan-B and exit down our up-track. Otherwise, we proceed to lap the north facing chutes above the lake. If conditions appear very stable and weather allows (no big afternoon solar radiation, etc), consider as a group exiting down the south-facing Super-Slope, a 350 m vertical 40° incline. Or, ski down the summer trail, or preferably back down our up-track through the trees.
Please send a brief ski resume so that we will all know our party’s safety training repertoire and if all are comfortable slow skiing in trees or on a resort’s black runs. Please be prepared to discuss avalanche conditions and safety as a group when we meet and ski. We can adjust our goals to suit the group.
