Itinerary:
This mentorship event is part of the AMP (Alpine Mentorship Program) organized by ACC Calgary jointly with ACMG Guide Brent Peters.

The North – South Wapta traverse is a must-do ski trip in the Canadian Rockies. The traverse crosses kilometers of glacier terrain with many ski mountaineering objectives and endless powder runs as you travel from hut-to-hut. The Wapta traverse requires experience in navigation and appropriate route selection through avalanche and glaciated terrain.

Cost: $483 (includes huts)

This event is designed for the ski touring intermediate or beginner that may not feel 100% confident in undertaking a long traverse without a more experienced ski partner or guide mentor. The Alpine Mentorship Program gives participants the opportunity to learn by spending four days with ACMG guide Brent Peters. Participants will be expected to review the avalanche bulletin and create a trip plan before the event. Brent will typically be second or third on the rope as participants take turns leading the team across the Wapta Icefields. While on the icefield we will practice crevasse rescue, route finding and attempt a few of the many ski mountaineering objectives on route. Evenings will be spent reviewing what was learned during the day and preparing white out navigation routes for the next day. Accelerate your learning as you complete the world renowned Wapta Traverse.

The cost of the trip includes hut fees and the guides day rate. Please note this is a self- catered event but catering is available through PeakEats at an additional cost.

Prerequisites: AST 1, Crevasse Rescue Training, Ability to carry a 40 pound pack for 4 days with 1200m elevation gain per day, ability to ski in the backcountry in all weather conditions
