Itinerary: |
We have the AO Wheeler hut booked for the
nights of November 17th and 18th for a family
trip. Members are invited to come with their
families and enjoy the snow of Roger's Pass in
the comfort of the Wheeler hut. There will be
lots of family winter activities of our own
making such as snow fort making, snowshoeing,
snowball fighting, snowman making, tobogganing
and whatever else you can think of to do in the
early season snow! Kids of all ages are welcome,
bring your parents!
We'll rendezvous as we can at the parking lot
on Friday afternoon or evening and port our
stuff in the 2 kilometers to the hut, bring
your sled or toboggan to haul your gear! For
those of you who haven't been there, please
contact the Trip Coordinator for details.
We'll all leave on Sunday with beaming smiles
and a renewed bounce in our step!
Potluck meals will be organized once the
attendee list is finalized.
Family Trip - all ages welcome.
One parent must be present to supervise their
children at all times.
Self-led trips of our own making.

Required Items to Bring: |
Depends on what activities that you plan on
engaging in:
- Toboggans
- Snowshoes
- X-Country Skis
If you have any questions about what other gear
to bring, please contact the Trip Coordinator.
The short story is that it's going to be a
winter wonderland up there! :-)
The hut is heated by 2 wood stoves - though
there
is likely some there, bringing paper and
matches
would be a decent idea. It has all required
utensils, dishes etc., propane stoves, ovens
and
lights and 2 outhouses (as outhouses goes, they
are
comfy). There should be plenty of wood with
axes and mauls to
cut it up. There are sleeping pads - you might
want
to bring sheets, depending on your
sensibilities.
More information will be circulated closer to
the
date; such as the combination for the lock in
case
you plan on getting there early.
Anything else, drop me a line!

|
Recommended Items to Bring: |
Glow sticks, board games, ear plugs could be
high on the list for some! :)
Song books and musical instruments if you have
them! Books, games....
|
|
How to Get There: |
Event Directions: |
|
Access to the parking lot is by turning left
(coming from Calgary) off the
Trans-Canada Highway approximately 3.5 kilometers west of
the Rogers Pass information centre.
On the south side of the highway, just past
"the 90" (90 degree turn after the Rogers Pass
summit) there is a sign for the turnoff to the
Illecillewaet and parking area.

Notes: |
Be sure to register all adults and the kids, if
necessary, add kids as guests with their ages
please!
This trip is
a great way to get your kids out in the
mountains. It's also a great way to meet other
ACC members with kids to get out and do things
with.
Please make your payment as soon as possible
after registering. $60/adult and $30/child. In
addition,
there is a (newish) $5 levy per payment (in our
case - family) to help pay for a Section
bookkeeper.
Payment can be made by email transfer to
treasurer@acccalgary.ca.
Please send a follow-up email to the Treasurer
with the password and the trip that the
payment is for.
No wilderness passes are required for the
Wheeler hut.

|
Payment is due by November 8, 2017.
Refunds are only given if a replacement is found.
Payments can be made as outlined
above. You can arrive or leave on the Saturday,
but both night's cost will still need to be
paid.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
