***LEADERS: If you want to be a trip leader
please
email me at susan.twitchell(at)gmail(dotcom).
I will be coordinating the leaders to be sure
we have the right leader/participant ratio,
fill up (but don't overfill) the hostel, etc.
You can post a two day trip if you'd like, or
you can post a single day trip for either
Saturday or Sunday.
This is an early posting for the Alpine
Review 2018 so people are aware of the dates.
As more info & details become available, this
posting will be updated. Feel free to sign up
on the waitlist anytime, participant selection
will take place in April/May 2018
Alpine Review is an event where experienced,
intermediate, and aspiring alpinists from the
Calgary ACC come together to practice skills,
climb alpine objectives, meet new partners, and
prepare for the upcoming alpine climbing
season. Let's get out and get the alpine
climbing season kicked of right! We'll be
based out of the Rampart Creek Hostel on the
icefields parkway, giving easy access to some
amazing alpine terrain.
This year there will be two kinds of trips:
1) Defined Objectives: Specific climbs such as
Athabasca, A2, Boundary, Wilcox, etc.
2) Group Skills Practice: Everyone from Alpine
Review is welcome to come out and and practice
anchor building, crevasse rescue, etc. Folks
can join the group skills trips for both days,
or
one day if they are on a Defined Objective on
another day.
Logistics
Alpine review is not first come first on.
The nature of alpine climbing and the limited
number of spots means that each participant
will have to be vetted by the trip leader.
There will be spots & trips for novice,
intermediate, and advanced alpine climbers!
Note that your position on the waitlist
does not impact chances of getting on a trip.
So if you see a trip you like, sign up!
Accommodation: 24 spots have been
booked at Rampart Creek Fri/Sat night June 1-3,
2018.
Travel: Carpools to Rampart Creek as
much as practical.
Food: There will be a communal dinner
Saturday night, including alcoholic beverages,
catered by a local backcountry cooking company.
Participants will be responsible for their own
meals, snacks, & drinks for the rest of the
weekend.
Cost: Costs are $100 for
participants, and $80 for leaders.
(Participants are
subsidizing trip leaders costs for dinner &
drinks).
Important Note on Payments:
Once you are accepted on a trip, payment should
be emailed to the treasurer at
treasurer@acccalgary.ca. You must include your
name, the trip (Alpine Review), your address,
and most importantly, the e-transfer password!
Weather & Conditions: The Alpine
Review will go ahead rain or shine, as long as
the icefield parkway is open. All trips will
have a poor weather/conditions plan B option,
and since the event is based out of a heated
hostel, we’ll have a warm & comfortable place
to retreat to.
How to Sign up!
- Participants sign up on for individual
trips (which will all be posted by April
2018),
get vetted, and accepted onto the trip.
- Participants accepted onto a trip then
pay the treasurer directly for hostel/food.
- Once payment is confirmed, Participants
will be moved onto the Alpine Review trip as
well, which confirms their hostel bed & dinner.
Everyone attending Alpine Review will thus
need to be signed up for 2 separate events: an
alpine climbing activity (to coordinate who
goes on what climbing trip), as well as the
overall Alpine Review (this trip posting, to
confirm their bed & dinner)
Note that Alpine Review payments will be
non-refundable, but if a person has to cancel
and they are able to find a replacement
suitable to the trip leader, they can sell/give
over their spot.
