How to suck less and be more better at…. is
a periodic series
designed to help facilitate ongoing peer
learning. Speakers are
volunteers who feel somewhat knowledgeable and
are willing to
help others achieve basic knowledge in an area-
they are by no
means experts, and may in fact not be the most
knowledgeable
person in attendance. The goal is to help
improve the knowledge
and skill level of all members who participate
on mountain trips
through regular skill updates. Discussion and
participant input is
welcomed during sessions.
Always wanted to try climbing in the gym? Want to get to an
outdoor event this summer but don't know how to belay?
This event will go over how to tie in to a rope using a figure
eight, and how to top rope belay someone. We will be
"mock" climbing (by throwing ropes over the top of a swing
set and having someone on either end).
This event will not discuss or get into lead climbing or
lead belaying - the goal is to give you the basic skills you
would need to pass a top rope belay check in the gym

Recommended Items to Bring: |
Harness and belay device if you have them. I'll have extras,
so please come even if you don't have a harness or belay
device.

Notes: |
** The ‘How to suck less and be more better at’
series is put on by
volunteers, who are by no means experts or
guides, just people
who are willing to share some knowledge in an
area. Discussion
and participant input is welcomed.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
