This course is for hikers, scramblers and climbers who want to learn the basics about glacier travel. This two-day course will cover glaciology for climbers, dividing the rope for glacier travel, shortening the rope, firn-line transitions, route finding, crevasse rescue, snow and ice anchors. Prerequisites: Participants do not need any previous glacier travel knowledge but some hiking or scrambling experience is a good idea. The course instructor has extra crampons, ice axes, harnesses and helmets for use on a first-ask, first-serve basis if participants do not have their own.
Required Items to Bring:
Harness, helmet, belay device (auto-blocking like ATC-Guide or Reverso is recommended), 4-5 locking carabiners (at least one being a Munter shape), 4 non-locking carabiners, 1 double-length shoulder sling, 2 7mmx5m Prussic cords, 1 7mmx1.5m prussic cord and a lunch/drink

Recommended Items to Bring:
Warm clothes (expect to stand around and listen/learn) and then participate.

Notes:
This trip will be a first-come-first-serve and this is based on who can deliver their $267.50 to the treasurer first. (The preferred method is to send an INTERAC e- Transfer to the ACC Treasurer using the Treasurer@ACCCalgary.ca email address. Be sure to supply the following to the treasurer when you send payment: Name, Full address including postal code, phone number, email, course/event title and date, Trip Leader/Coordinator, and the password to accept payment and a payment confirmation email to the trip coordinators. About the course leader: Sean Isaac is a sponsored climbing athlete and an ACMG Alpine Guide specializing in technical leadership instruction in addition to guiding rock, ice and alpine routes.
