Itinerary:
This trip is for all people who want to try ice climbing for the first time, or already have a day or two of ice under their belt, but still don’t feel like committing to bigger objectives. Blue Cheese is located just a few km up the Smith Dorrion Highway from Canmore, and the approach is a about 30 min walk in the park (except the river is still not frozen, which might make for some exciting river crossing action). It is a about 15m high and offers two, max three lines of easy to harder WI3 climbing which is ideal to do your first steps on ice or getting a few more laps in before doing bigger stuff. I will not teach any belay technique, but I can go over ice climbing technique, ice anchors, placing screws or how to set up a V threat. Ideally you can give a leader a save belay, but being able to belay someone safely on top rope will be fine. This trip is part of this year's Ice Review, so to be considered for it, you also must be signed up and have paid for that event. As I also likely don't know anything about you, your experience on ice or your belay skills (belaying experience on rock is fine), please send a short email describing your skills to link_tobias(at)web.de as a prerequisite. I will wait until the first week in January to transfer people from the waiting list, so please be patient.
Required Items to Bring:
A list of items to bring will be sent out once participants are chosen.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
