The Real Outdoor Climbing Knowledge Introductory Training (ROCK IT) program is the Calgary Section’s newest addition to our mountain skill building program. This is for all people new to rock climbing or for people who need a refresher from scratch. No previous experience in any climbing activity is required. ROCK IT is not a training program for your physical strength, but we will set you up with the technical knowledge necessary to take part on other Section trips posted on the trip schedule throughout the summer like the weekly Rock Rage, as well as other ACC day and weekend trips. The ultimate goal of the program is to take participants from the beginner level to self sufficient climbers who can climb on their own and be safe and competent climbing partners. All of the sessions will be posted on the club calendar, so keep an eye out for them.
As we think it is necessary to provide some more training on some skills taught before, the Forth Session will be focused on setting-up and cleaning anchors, transitioning over to rappelling, as well as rappelling itself. We will also try to answer any questions you might have regarding any other related skills/problems.
Please make sure you read the entire program description here: http://www.acccalgary.ca/2016/06/rock-real-outdoor-climbing-knowledge-introductory-training-program/ (please be aware, that the contents of the fourth session have changed a bit).
Required Items to Bring:
As this one session is held in the city, no rock climbing shoes and helmet are necessary, but still bring your harness, belay/rappel device, anchor package (lockers/biners and sling), self belay sling, prussic cord/hollow block, rope, appropriate clothing.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
