Itinerary:
Update:

Lida and I have confirmed our dates. We will be leaving on the 6:00am flight out of Calgary on Saturday morning and arriving back in Calgary the following Sunday night at 9:00 pm. We will be staying at La Posada each night and using their airport shuttle taking the toll road each way. We have confirmed the pricing at around $10pp per night that includes everything. With airfare, transportation, airport parking, accommodations, etc... it looks to be around $820 CAD per person before food.

Cheaper Than Red Rocks!!!

El Potrero Chico (“little coral”) is the world famous big wall sport climbing paradise in northern Mexico. It is an amazing climbing experience of a lifetime of well-bolted, multi-pitch sport routes with ratings from 5.7 to 5.14 and routes with up to 23 pitches. Most of the climbs have a crazy easy approach about a 5 minute walk from most campgrounds, eliminating any need for a car.

Lida and I are planning to go climbing in late November, leaving Calgary on the 18th.  She is returning on the 27th but I may stay longer if anyone wants to stay and climb with me.  Everyone can come and go as their schedules allow.

The Climbing

This is a self-catered trip so you should be able to lead what you want to climb, have most of your own gear (rope, draws, etc...), give safe belays. It looks like its pretty much all sport routes so not much is needed.

There are an incredible amount of long multi- pitches. They range from beginner routes with 2 or 3 pitches up to the second largest multi-pitch route in North America Time Wave Zero. The majority of multi-pitch routes fall into the 6- 10 pitches category, which make for a perfect day of climbing and still time to jump in the pool in the late afternoon.

Travel and Accommodations

Round trip tickets with one stop from Calgary to Monterrey are running around $600 in November (7 hour flight).  We will be staying at La Posada Campground which is about $6 usd per person a day.  It is a 5-10 minute walk to the main crags runs and have access to showers, BBQ, common kitchen and swimming pool. They also offer a shuttle that will take you to and from the airport.  They also offer rooms, a small house and a large house.  If we get enough people commited maybe this is an option for us.

There are plenty of really cheap restaurants and shops that are close by to grab meals and groceries.

To get on the trip

Simply add yourself to the waitlist and I will send you a google spreadsheet link so you can put your availability in it. Once we have an idea of what works best for most people, we can start to confirm dates. When people confirm that they have booked a plane ticket, I will move them to the go list. I'm assuming we will have people coming and going over a two week period depending on their schedules.

Required Items to Bring:
Rope, Draws, Anchor, Belay device, Helmet, Tent, Sleeping Bag, etc...

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
