In 1977 Urs Kallen publish a guide book for Mt. Yamnuska called "A Climbers Guide To Yamnuska" which described 34 routes. Nowadays climbers consider each of these 34 original routes on Yam a true classic and the so known "Kallen 34" became a cult tick list for many of them. Don't be fooled by the grades given even in the most up to date guide book. These routes are long, committing, sometimes have sections of "interesting" rock quality and are usually quite a bit harder compared to modern standards. Nevertheless they offer a great experience to these people who don't mind squeezing up chimneys, jamming cracks and dance up blank sections of slab on one of the best rock faces east of Squamish.
Depending on the participants I have the following routes in mind:
The easy ones:
- The Tounge 5.6 and 5.9 left and right side
- Gollum Groves 5.7
The harder ones:
- Freak Out 5.9+
- Pangolin 5.10b
- Balrog 5.10b
- Dazed and Confused 5.10b
As some of them are quite short, we will try to compensate the short climb with climbing a second one that day.
To be considered for this trip, you need to be part of the Rock Review, able to give me a safe belay and able to clean gear as a second. You need not to lead any of the pitches if you don't want to. You also need to submit a climbing resume describing your trad climbing experience as well as a short list of climbs you have done in 2016 and 2015.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
