Note: this trip is intended primarily to
participants (confirmed or waitlisted) in the
ACC Calgary Section Mont Blanc Expedition
running from August 13 to August 20, 2016

should be available the full weekend (Friday 5
p.m. to Sunday 9 p.m.) even though the actual
trip may not last the full 2 1/3 day scheduled
depending on the objective selected. The trip
will be camping- or hut-based depending on
mountain objective. Participants should be
willing to pay hut fees if needed (up to $30
per night) and/or have an annual National Parks
Wilderness Pass.
Proposed schedule:
Friday: leave Calgary around 5 p.m. on, and
drive towards our mountain objective for the
weekend Saturday:
approach and climb Sunday: climb more and
return to car; pub stop and Mont Blanc Trip
discussions on the way back to Calgary. We will
aim to be back in town by 10 p.m.
The mountain objective(s) will be selected
by trip leaders on
Wednesday May 25 based primarily on the weather
forecast and conditions, and secondly on
participants preferences. We will climb
somewhere no matter what the weather is, though
our objective will be scaled down accordingly,
as needed.
Plan A: Climb a high peak in Canadian
Rockies
In the Lake Louise
area
Suggested peaks:
Mt Huber: 11-km hiking approach to Lake O'Hara
from the road,
steep rock, glacier, 11,000er
Mt Aberdeen: easy multi-pitch ice climb,
glacier, 10,300er, very long single day
climb
Mt Lefroy: 11-km hiking approach to Lake
O'Hara, deep snow approach to Abbott Pass,
steep snow climb, 11,000er
In the Southern Rockies
Mt Harrisson (North couloir route): 6-h drive,
3-hour approach hike to bivy site, 12-16 hour
steep snow/ice multiptich climb, 11,000er
By the Columbia Icefields
Andromeda Mountain (Skyladder route): 3.5-h
drive, steep snow/ice multiptich climb,
11,000er
Plan B: Climb a peak in the Abraham Lake
area
Suggested peaks:
Mount Abraham and/or Elliot Peak, or combined
with a visit of the Cline River Via Ferrata

Required Items to Bring:
Mountaineering gear (for glacier travel and
steep ice and snow; possibly avalanche gear).
Rock shoes. Overnight camping/bivy gear.
Dependent on the mountain objective selected.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Participation in this activity is subject to you having a current membership and a current signed
ACC Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks Agreement (the “Waiver”), which is signed in conjunction with purchasing/renewing your membership.
A separate Waiver is not required. Your membership Waiver in place at the time of the activity will apply to your participation in this activity. You can review your completed waiver by logging onto your profile at alpineclubofcanada.ca. If your
membership renews prior to the activity taking place, you will be required to agree to a new Waiver upon renewal, this new Waiver will apply to your participation in this activity. By proceeding with the booking, you agree to the foregoing waiver terms. Bookings
without a current Waiver at the time of the activity will be cancelled.
