Course Description: Sean Isaac is an ACMG
Alpine Guide based out of Canmore. This course
is for hikers, scramblers and
climbers who want to learn the basics about
glacier travel. This
two-day course will cover glaciology for
climbers, dividing the
rope for glacier travel, shorting the rope,
firn-line transitions,
route finding, crevasse rescue, snow and ice

practicing these techniques on the toe of the
glacier, and day 2 will
be applying all learned techniques during an
ascent of a mountain.
Prerequisites: Participants do not need any
previous glacier travel

experience is a good
idea. The course instructor has extra crampons,
ice axes,
harnesses and helmets for use on a first-ask,
first-serve basis if
participants do not have their own.
Required Items to Bring:
Harness, helmet, belay device (auto-blocking
like ATC-Guide or

shoulder sling, 2 7mmx5m Prussic cords, 1

Recommended Items to Bring:
Warm clothes (expect to stand around and
