How to suck less and be more better at…. is
a monthly series
designed to help facilitate ongoing peer
learning. Speakers are
volunteers who feel somewhat knowledgeable and
are willing to
help others achieve basic knowledge in an area-
they are by no
means experts, and may in fact not be the most
knowledgeable
person in attendance. The goal is to help
improve the knowledge
and skill level of all members who participate
on mountain trips
through regular skill updates. Discussion and
participant input is
welcomed during sessions.
Multi-pitch climbing is awesome, and often the
key to having a great day out is to move
quickly and efficiently as a team. You don't
have to climb with haste to get up a route
quickly, but you do have to have an efficient
system in place to make things go quickly and
safely. After some initial demonstrations &
discussion, we'll simulate multi-pitch climbing
in the park by setting up anchors and
"climbing" between them. The goal will be to
get as much hands on practice with the multi-
pitch systems as possible.
This session will focus on the following:
-
- How to speed up multi-pitch transitions to
save significant time on climbs.
- What to do as the leader of the pitch
(picking & setting up belays, securing yourself
quickly, rope management,
etc.)
- What to do as the second on the pitch
(securing yourself, handing over gear, rope
management)
- Different tactics for when swinging leads,
leading in blocks, or when one person is
leading the entire climb

Notes: |
** The ‘How to suck less and be more better at’
series is put on by
volunteers, who are by no means experts or
guides, just people
who are willing to share some knowledge in an
area. Discussion
and participant input is welcomed. All levels
of
experience and knowledge are welcome!

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
