STD Wall is one of the premium early and late season climbing destinations near Calgary. Due its location in the north Ghost it is not easily accessible at this time of the year, even with a 4x4. We still should give it a serious try, but we might end up walking a long time or don't make it there at all due to ice shelves and damning of the river, but I expect not too many problems. Snow drifts etc. shouldn't however be a big concern right now.
The wall itself is south facing, and as it sits high up on a slope (about 35min from the normal parking) it gets sun most time of the day and it even is partly wind sheltered. Therefore it should be nice and warm on Saturday. It offers mostly longer routes with up to four or five pitches, but you can only do the first one if you want to. The grades start more in the 5.10 range, but there should be enough stuff to do for a whole day on 5.8 and 5.9 if this is the maximum you can climb. All routes there are bolted and have also bolted anchors or even rap station with ring bolts. The climbing is more of technical nature than on big overhangs.
This is not a guided trip, no topropes are provided, so bring your own rope gun if you can't lead whats there or let me at least know and I can try to hook you up with somebody else.
As we need only sport climbing gear, my vehicle can take up to five people. If somebody else has a capable 4x4, we can take some more folks, so please let me know.
The plan is to leave Calgary around 8am (exact time will be send out to participants) as the rock needs some time to warm up anyways, drive into the North Ghost, climb until the sun disappears and it gets cold again and drive back. I hope we can make it home before 7pm, but we will be in the Ghost, which means we will get home whenever the mighty Ghost decides ;-)
To be considered for this trip, please send a short email describing your rock climbing abilities to link_tobias(at)web.de
I will pick the participants tomorrow evening (I lead another trip tomorrow), so please be patient and wait.

If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
