Itinerary:
UPDATE ON THE PLAN: THIS TRAVERSE WILL BE CAMPING. DUE TO AVALANCHE RISK BC PARKS DOES NOT WANT THESE CABINS USED IN THE WINTER. ALTHOUGH MY BOOKING WAS FOR SPRINGTIME, THE ACC HAS CANCELLED IT FOR THE SKI SEASON. 6 day trip out to Kootenay Lake. We’ll climb up and traverse Kokanee Glacier, skiing out of the ACC’s Woodbury and Silver Spray cabins in the Park. An April trip should allow us to drive up near the area on forestry roads and then slog-in on skis. Otherwise, be prepared to pay $150/person min. for a heli lift. The plan is to spend the first night and the last night at my house at Woodbury BC as the base, one night camping out, 2 nights in Woodbury Hut and 1 night in Silver Spray Hut. CAVEAT: This is a bold route in serious terrain and crosses a number of glaciers so we want the snowpack and weather conditions to be favourable. Participants should be flexible on the schedule, as the date of the trip might have to change to suit the forecast conditions. There will be a couple long days. Participants should be competent skiers, already in shape, who have experience/training for this activity. There is no professional or guide, only backcountry ski enthusiasts. Each person is responsible for making their own backcountry safety assessments and decisions. Having said all this, the skiing should be as good as it gets! If you sign-up for this trip please answer the following 2 questions: 1. Whether you are able to drive, vehicle type, how many people you can take with gear and confirm if you have winter tires (law in BC) or chains. We will need to leave vehicles up our entry and exit routes. 2. This trip will go next April but as mentioned, the proposed date might change due to the conditions. Given your own personal situation (commitments, job etc), if you were informed a couple days before the trip that it was being deferred for a week , how likely is it that you’d have the flexibility to still go? (a) Very likely (b) Not sure (c) Not too likely
Required Items to Bring:
Participants must have equipment for glacier travel and crevasse rescue and have the knowledge and training to be able to use it. Participants to be equipped and prepared to camp out overnight.

How to Get There:
Carpool Departure Time:
Carpool Location:   TBA

Notes:
Accommodation at my house at Woodbury (sauna etc…bring bathing suit) will have a $25/night fee, same as the ACC Huts. I’ve booked the ACC cabins already, so total lodging fees of $125 per participant to be paid to me when the group is confirmed.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
