This is the last weekend Hwy 40 will be open to Highwood Pass. We've had no snow and relatively warm temperatures for almost a week now, and the forecast says this will continue through next weekend. Sounds like the scrambling should be better than the skiing on the weekend. Nevertheless, we'll probably encounter slippery, icy, and snow-covered rock. There may also be some unavoidable snow sections where use of avalanche safety gear & techniques are warranted. All participants must be comfortable on Kane Difficult scrambles in dry conditions. All particpants must be experienced in performing an ice axe self-arrest with and without crampons. All participants must be experienced in using an avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel.
