Rogers Pass Motel Mayhem 6! We have killer
weekends in the pass. We ski
hip deep pow even when everyone else in the
pass is fighting crud. How?
Because we know how to read a weather forecast,
we know how to read a map
and we go where the snow is, not where
'everyone goes'.
So, back to the Pass we go; bring your snorkel.
This is early December in Rogers Pass.
Basically - we could be drowning in
POW at the highway or we could be going high
and North facing. Just like
the past five trips, the game plan is to do
some motel accessed skiing in
Rogers Pass.
We'll be leaving from Our Lady of the
Assumption School at 6pm and then
staying at the Dreamcatcher Hostel in Golden
for the next two nights
while bagging turns by day.
You should be prepared for long days (if the
snow is hiding from the
tourists and just waiting for us to poach it,
we could have to cover some
serious distance and elevation) and you should be
prepared to be involved in your
safety decisions - this is NOT a guided trip,
it's not even a 'led' trip,
I'm barely competent to make my own decisions
in terrain as big and scary
as Rogers Pass, so I'm sure as hell not making
yours for you. Capisce?
There's a full kitchen at the hostel so we'll do a communal
meal on Saturday night which
will probably include a slow cooker and
whatever you, the aspirant
participant feel like bringing (if you have
food issues - give me a heads
up, we can go full hipster and do something gluten, meat and dairy free or we can
make a meatlovers cheese pizza - I eat anything as long as it's delicious).
You should be prepared to pay around $70 for
the two nights combined plus
your share of vehicle expenses which for 900km of driving can be pretty significant.
Required Items to Bring:
It's a motel based ski touring trip, if you
don't know what to bring, email me. Bring Avi
stuff. Bring stuff to eat. Bring your brain.
Bring beer.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
