The main objective of the trip is to climb Mt.
Aberdeen (and Hado), via the standard glacier
route beginning in Surprise Valley, to the
Aberdeen/Hado col, and then to descend into
Paradise Valley. Aberdeen is a grade II alpine
climb with a lot of hiking, ~300m of 40-55
degree alpine ice/snow, glacier travel, some
4th class rock, and spectacular views. The
total round trip time will be about 12 hours.
We'll head out Friday night to camp in Lake
Louise in order to get up very early, and most
likely camp Saturday night as well.
Required Items to Bring:
Detailed gear list will be discussed with the
team, but some highlights are: helmet, harness,
crampons, two ice axes, glacier travel gear.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Your own research and opinions about the climb.

Event Directions:
TBD
Notes:
Please email me a list of relevant alpine,
waterfall ice, and scrambling objectives you've
been on, including dates and your role on the
trip (e.g. leader, co-leader, second). Also
let me know the last time you practiced
crevasse rescue (Note: there is an ACC crevasse
rescue practice session on June 18 if your
current answer to this question isn't very
good!). A mix of experience/skill is welcome
on the trip, however I'll be looking for at
least one participant who is willing and able
to competently lead a second rope team on the
ice section.
Advance notice of cancellations is appreciated
due to the minimum group size of 4, which is
required in order to avoid bears and/or large
fines from parks for not adequately avoiding
bear encounters in Paradise Valley.
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
Trip Feedback If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
