How to suck less and be more better at…. is
a monthly series designed to help facilitate
on-going peer learning. Speakers are volunteers
who feel somewhat knowledgeable and are willing
to help others achieve basic knowledge in an
area - they are by no means experts, and may in
fact not be the most knowledgeable person in
attendance. The goal is to help improve the
knowledge and skill level of all members who
participate on mountain trips through regular
skill updates. Discussion and participant input
is welcomed during sessions.
Topic: Using modern tools for back-
country planning and navigation.
Maps are a fundamental tool used for
planning outdoor adventures, facilitating
teamwork and navigation. By learning how to
create maps, a better understanding of how to
use maps can be gained in both printed in
digital forms.
The session will cover:
- Basic map properties, projection,
datum, etc
- Digital data sources
- Data conversion
- Building maps
- Sharing your maps in pdf, printed and
digital (gpx) formats
After the session, people will be heading to
Side Street Pub and Grill at 1167 Kensington
cres NW. Feel free to continue the discussions
or berate your presenter.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.

Trip Feedback
If you have any feedback, positive or negative, concerning this trip or any other, we want to hear from you! You can send any feedback you may have to the Section Chair.
