The purpose of this Avalanche Safety Review Field Day is to offer a skills refresher for any ACC Club Members planning on going into avalanche terrain this winter season. We will review the Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES), the Avalanche Danger Scale and how to identify Avalanche Terrain. The goal is for every participant on an ACC Club Trip in avalanche terrain to be an active and confident participant in the groups’ decision making process. Throughout the day observations will be made and a review of decision making in avalanche terrain utilizing the Avaluator in the field will be conducted. This will be a great opportunity to practice route planning, perform terrain analysis and minimize risk in avalanche terrain. Participants will be encouraged to practice current single companion rescue methods and perform a large organized group rescue scenario. A review of literature and new information available online will be conducted including where to find free weather information, how and why you should sign up for the Mountain Conditions Report (MCR) and how to effectively read the Public Avalanche Bulletin. The cost of this course will be $43.75 and you will be added to the course once payment is received by the ACC Treasurer. To submit payment: - Send e-transfer to treasurer@acccalgary.ca

This course will be offered by an ACMG Assistant Ski Guide - Chris Girard, who is an active member of the ACC- Calgary Section and is currently teaching Avalanche Skills Training Courses through the UofC Outdoor Centre. This course is an excellent opportunity for skiers/riders to refresh their skills and receive feedback from a professional.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
