Itinerary:
With lots of fresh snow on the way, aiming to head out for some turns in the backcountry. The two big issues this weekend will be very low temperatures and potentially a rather unstable snowpack, thus at this point won’t commit to any specific spot – the target will be to get good turns and to stay safe. As it is a bit difficult to predict what we’ll encounter, this trip is not suitable for beginners. Base plan would be to head to Highwood Pass (either main area on Pocaterra ridge or some “exploration” in the nearby area); expect about 1,000 meters vertical. To join, you have to: 1) have at least AST 1 or equivalent avalanche training, and be familiar with your avi equipment; 2) have and bring a 2+ digital transceiver, probe and metal shovel; 3) have backcountry skiing experience and be familiar with your gear; 4) be comfortable skiing black / double black type runs in variable conditions. Splitboards ok, Snowshoe – Snowboard carry combinations not. If we have not skied together before, please send me an email confirming: 1) type of your transceiver, 2) overview of previous backcountry experience, 3) confirmation that you are comfortable skiing steep runs in variable (crud / ice / deep powder / …) conditions. Aiming to confirm participants late on Thursday. Hope we’ll have a great day despite the cold!
Required Items to Bring:
Transceiver, Shovel, Probe, (very) warm clothes, food, drinks, etc

Recommended Items to Bring:
strongly recommend a helmet

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
