Itinerary:

AST 2 - 5 day course with Cyril Shokoples
The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 course will provide an intermediate level decision-making framework that is suitable for people with a moderate degree of training and experience.
The course includes 8 hours classroom time and 4 days in the field.
At the end of the course,students should be able to:
  1. -use the Avaluator 2 as a filtering tool to determine when additional planning and travel techniques are required to travel safely.
  2. -be familiar with Avalanche Danger Ratings verification techniques for personal use on a local scale.
  3. -be familiar with the ATES technical model as a means to develop personal,local terrain ratings.
  4. -use route finding to take advantage of nuances in terrain to manage personal risk.
  5. -use travel techniques in avalanche terrain appropriate to the avalanche conditions.
  6. -proficiently carry out a companion rescue.
  7. -understand the limits of their training.

Notes:

This course is arranged through Rescue Dynamics and is taught by Cyril Shokoples, an internationally certified mountain guide and Past President of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides. Cyril has received the Distinguished Service Award from both the ACC and the ACMG. In 2013, Cyril was inducted as an honorary member of the ACC. He has taught the ACC's North Face National Leadership Courses for the past 15 years and has a long history of instruction with the Calgary Section.

This course will be a first-come-first-serve and this is based on who can deliver their cheque/cash first. Info/address for payment will be sent to you by email once you've signed up. Cancellation Policy: Withdrawal with a full refund is available 2 weeks before, ONLY if qualified participant from waiting list is available. No date changes, withdrawals or refunds 1 week before the course starts.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
