Come and join us for the first long weekend of the upcoming rock climbing season 2014! As the weather at this time of the year is unpredictable we will choose our destination a few days before departure. The goal being to get the best drive : climb ratio possible. We will be car camping together and cooking in small groups. For this trip you must be a competent and independent climber. You must be comfortable leading and/or setting up your own ropes. If you haven't been out climbing with me in the last years, please EMAIL a brief description of your climbing experience to link_tobias(at)web.de to be considered for the trip. So far we are thinking about the following options: - The Ghost Wilderness Area: Our first choice in respect of the driving : climb/fun ratio. Offers lots of single and multi-pitch sport (5.8 and up) and trad (5.7 and up) climbing. A vehicle with higher clearance is recommended (Subarus are fine). - The Columbia Valley: Not only Spilimacheen offers great climbing (sport 5.10a and up), but there are also some new playgrounds 90 min south of it offering trad (5.8 and up) and some limited sport climbing (10a and up) with up to eight pitches. - Revelstoke: Lots of sport climbing, 1 to 16 pitches long. Mostly 10a and up, but a variety of softer graded routes are available. - Stonehill: Another excellent climbing area within a 4,5 hrs drive from Calgary in northern Montana. It offers mostly single pitch trad/mixed climbs 5.8 and up, but some sport (mostly 10a and up) is provided too. The grades are pretty stiff down there.
As we are chasing the sun, we might take Friday off instead of Monday, so a little bit flexibility is an advantage.
