Itinerary:
It seems like this never ending winter has a large load of fresh snow coming this weekend, thus it would be a shame not to use it. Base plan is to ski Surprise Pass at Lake Louise, but as always may change plans last minute if conditions are not favorable for this objective; alternatives could be Mt Field, Jimmy Junior, etc. As Surprise Pass is a very steep run with no easy bypass options, you need to be very comfortable with skiing steep (double black diamond) terrain in variable conditions; furthermore need to be able to climb up to 1,500 meters vert at a decent speed. As it is spring, we’ll need to start early; plan is to start the skin up by 6am the latest. Splitboards are ok, Snowboard-Snowshoe combos not. To avoid an extremely early start from Calgary will stay at the Lake Louise Alpine Hostel; you will need to MAKE YOUR OWN RESERVATION. We’ll finalize the plans for Saturday over a beer Friday night at the hostel. If you want to participate and have not skied with me this season so far, please send me an email with the following information: 1) Which tours you have done this season so far 2) Which type of transceiver you have (must be digital at least 2 antenna) 3) Confirmation that you are comfortable skiing double black diamond type terrain in variable conditions (i.e. even if icy / sluffing / …) If conditions are very favorable may stay till Sunday night and use the extra day as well, tbc.
