2014 Calgary Section Summer Camp: Instructional Week for Aspiring Alpinists.

Email your application form to the Camp Coordinator at section.camp@acccalgary.ca by May 2, 2014. The Section Camp committee will evaluate all the applications and select participants by May 10. You'll then have one week to complete the payment of $1050 that will cover the cost for the week.

When:
  • This posting is for Week 3: August 9 - August 16
What:
7 days of Alpine instruction from 2 ACMG Guides and the support of an Amateur Leader in a format similar to an ACC The North Face leadership course. Course content will depend on selected participants experience. Meals will be included.


Where:
Mt Nemo area. Selkirk Mountains, British Columbia

Base:
Camp will be located ???. The staging area will be located approximately 50km South of Golden, BC at McMurdo creek and then a quick flight.

Who:
10 (max) Participants. After June 1 the camp will be opened up to other Sections

Guides:
Matt Muller is a Mountain Guide based out of Canmore Alberta. He has been lucky enough to work with the ACC for the last decade as a guide and instructor on GMC's, ice climbing trips and Section Leadership Courses. HIs varied professional background includes mountain guiding in New Zealand, climbing and ski guiding/instruction in the Canadian Ranges and most recently, a shift to Kananaskis Public Safety as a Public Safety Specialist.

Alex Geary is an ACMG Ski Guide and Apprentice Alpine Guide living in Revelstoke, BC. He has been working in the mountains since the year 2000, mostly skiing and climbing in countries including Canada, Chile, Australia, New Zealand and the European Alps. Alex enjoys most types of adventures in the mountains, and always feels privileged to share these experiences with friends and guests.

Cost:
A deposit of $950 is required (final costs will depend on helicopter costs and the number of attendees).

Notes:
Once you registration has been confirmed no refunds will be given for any reason (cancellation, weather, flight delays, etc.). It will be your responsibility to find a suitable replacement if you are unable to attend the event. Participants may wish to consider purchasing trip cancellation/interruption insurance through the National office to mitigate any loss.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
