Itinerary:
This trip is part of the Ice Review. Designed for new ice climbers or those with only a day or so experience. Your chance to experience it in a very safe and fun area. Junk yards can be very busy but has a variety of ice to practice on. It is short 10 min. approach on level ground with a 5 minute climb up to the ice. Meet at Shouldice Athletic Park / Sign waivers with everyone attending the Ice Review weekend. Travel to Canmore and the Junk Yards climbing area. Parking at the Grassy Lakes parking lot. Will then spend the day climbing and practicing basic techniques. End of day return to the Ice Review camp in Banff for dinner and overnight fun!
Required Items to Bring:
Required Items to Bring: - warm clothes - Layers. - Heavy winter jacket to wear while waiting or belaying. - Winter pants or ski pants with gaiters if they are loose and bulky in the legs. Helps keep from tearing them with your crampons. - Toque that your helmet will fit over. - Climbing gear: harness, helmet, belay device, 2 locking biners, 2 technical ice tools, climbing boots, ice climbing crampons - Be sure to bring a supply of drinking water - hot drinks - Lunch - warm if possible. Snacks. - Extra heavy winter gloves to belay in and for waiting around. Lighter gloves to climb in.

Recommended Items to Bring:
- Headlamp - Chemical hand warmers if the temperature is really cold.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:   Drive through Canmore to the Nordic Centre. Continue past the Nordic Centre towards Spray Lakes and turn left to the Grassy Lakes parking lot just before the pavement ends. Park in the parking lot.  

Notes:
Again this event is focused on the beginner. Someone who has never ice climbed before or limited experience of one day. So focus on basic techniques and safety. We will do as much as we can depending on each persons ability.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
