Join ACC members, Vera Neverkevich and Ben
Stephenson, who will share photos, video and
stories from 2 classic mountaineering objectives;
Khan Tengri - “the most northerly 7000-er” and Mt
Kenya - the second highest peak in Africa.
Khan Tengri, in the Tien Shan of Kazakhstan, is
one of 5 peaks over 7000m in the ex-Soviet block.
Summiteers of these 5 peaks are given the
prestigious Snow Leopard award. To ascend a big
peak in the ex-Soviet states, Vera and Ben were
advised to “climb like a Russian”, which basically
means accepting a lot of risk, and the vodka is
optional.
Whilst Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in
Africa, Mt Kenya is known as the mountaineer’s
objective. The highest peak is a 17+ pitch climb
straight up the plug of an extinct volcano which
straddles the equator. The scenery and wildlife
are stunning, and the climbing is pretty good too

The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
