Course Content: A one-day course to provide more
complicated concepts pertaining to improvised rock
rescue techniques so you can deal with simple
cliff-side emergencies. Techniques to be covered
include a quick review of escaping the belay,
lowering and raising systems and tandem rappels
then move onto more complex systems like knot
passes, added advantage raising system and rope
ascension. There will also be scenarios to apply
the new skills.
Prerequisite: Participants must have taken Sean’s
Intro to Rock Rescue course in the past year
(there is one posted for May 8). If a participant
has not taken his intro course recently but has a
comprehensive understanding of tying off their
belay device, escaping the belay and various knots
like tied-off munter, munter mule and prussic then
an exception might be made on a case-by-case
basis.
|
Required Items to Bring: |
Harness, helmet, belay device (auto-blocking like
ATC-Guide or Reverso is recommended), 4-5 locking
carabiners (at least one being a Munter shape), 4
non-locking carabiners, 1 double-length shoulder
sling, 2 7mmx5m Prussic cords, 1 7mmx1.5m prussic
cord and a lunch/drink
|
|
Recommended Items to Bring: |
Warm clothes (expect to stand around and
listen/learn) and then participate.
|
|

first. Your payment options are as follows:

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy:
Courses are offered at a discounted rate based on
a 1:6 ration of instructor to student (40%
discount from standard rates). Due to the
popularity of these clinics, full payment must be
received to book your spot. There will be no
refund for cancellations. Courses will run
regardless of weather unless the guide deems
conditions unsafe then either a back-up option
will be executed (i.e. rock rescue in the climbing
gym if torrential rain) or an appropriate date
will be rescheduled. This is to be decided by the
guide the evening before.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
