Itinerary: |
Sorry for posting this so late, but I had to decide quickly
between two climbing possibilities, given both the weather and
the snow-line/snow-pack.
Finally, it seemed wiser to opt for a destination in the far south
(of Canada) with relatively easy ascents.
We already have 4 participants, but can take one more in my
truck; or up to 3-4 more if someone else wishes to drive. Our
route in by vehicle will probably be all right for a sturdy
automobile, but a truck or SUV might be preferrable.
We'll be heading down from Calgary to the south Flathead area
in eastern BC. This will be a car camping trip, with different
ascents possible each day; it will take us about six hours to
reach a camp spot on Sage Creek.
Peaks accessible on this trip: Sunkist Mt. & Ridge; Commerce
Peak; Langemarck Mt.; Flanders Mt.; Mt. Yarrell; and others.
None of these is difficult, although there may be some
navigation and bushwhacking required. Ascents are generally
around 3000' elevation gain.
|
Required Items to Bring: |
Overnight camping equipment, dry socks (lots!), sun screen, bear
spray & bangers (this is serious bear country!); cook stove, pots,
food for 5-6 days, etc.
|
|
Recommended Items to Bring: |
Whatever you want -- camp chairs, boutique wine, good food (no
raw meat, however), books (no one has to climb every day), etc.
|
|
How to Get There: |
Event Directions: |
|
We drive the Chain Lakes Hwy S from Calgary, turn W and cross the
Crowsnest and travel to 12 km past Fernie (Morrisey Bridge); we
then follow the gravel Lodgepole Road back E, then S along the
Flathead River to Sage Crk, then back E to wherever looks like a
good camp spot.

Notes: |
This is intended to be a fun camp for beginning and intermediate
climbers, and all those who love a real wilderness and back-
country experience, along with a chance to climb some easy,
remote peaks with spectacular views, all of it in a little-known and
less-traveled part of the Rockies.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
