Itinerary: |
I know this is a kind of late posting, but I thought a few
ACC folks interested in exotic and remote ascents might be
interested, and I wanted to wait to be sure a solid 3-day
weather window was opening up.
Macdonnell may not have been climbed -- it is remote, not
listed in any guidebook, and under 9000'; in fact, it is really
just a high point on the SW ridge of Joffre.
It is located about 3 km SE of Sylvan Pass, which itself is
about 11 km up the Joffre Creek trail from the staging area
at the far end of the Palliser River (a few km beyond the
usually parking spot for the Royal Group).
It's about a 4 hr drive and a 4-5 hr backpack to get into
position. The climb itself is a mystery -- not only is it
difficult to read the contours on the topos, the massif
spans two maps with some confusion. Well, the more
mystery, the more fun, right?
We will climb on August 4 and either stay over another
night and come on on Sunday the 5th or, if all goes
smoothly, head out on Saturday.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance: Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!
Cancellation Policy If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
