I have been down to the Flathead once already this year, back in
June; however, I had been competing a few days earlier in the
North American Orienteering Races in Cranbrook and had
messed up my knee enough that I was able to climb only one
minor summit.
So I have some scores to settle down there . . . and this should
be a delightful time of the year: low water for stream crossings,
leaves off the inevitable bush, cool temps, and, if the forecast is
accurate, bluebird skies.
Manfred Czechak has already volunteered to be a sacrificial
victim, but fresh blood is always welcome.
Although it might be advisable to have a high-clearance vehicle,
the road in to our camping spot is in fairly good shape; and we
will be car camping, so bring whatever you wish. Our trips will
be day trips, usually with less than an hour's driving as an
approach.
It is a longish drive down there -- about five hours -- so we'll
try to climb an easy and short minor peak on Thursday; then a
peak a day until we return on Monday.
My wish list: Dally Hill; Inverted Ridge (with perhaps a traverse
to Outlier Ridge); Mt Swope; Soowa Mt; Mt Broadwood.
Required Items to Bring:
Car camping gear -- food, stove, tent, sleeping bag, mattress, etc.
Recommended Items to Bring:
Ice axe, helmet, harness, poles
