Itinerary:
On July 1st, 2010 orienteers from across North America and around the world will gather at the Kimberley Nordic Centre to participate in the kick-off event of the North American Orienteering Championships. Upwards of 300 runners will navigate the trails and forest of Nordic Centre, as they complete to finish the specially designed course in the shortest time. This kick-off event is open to everyone and is designed as a fun race where those new to orienteering compete against the best orienteers in North America through a simple handicapping system: the top orienteers need to final more check points (controls) than those new to the sport or in a younger or older age category. This event is part of a 5 race series of orienteering events with classes for both those will years of orienteering experience to open classes for those wanting to try out their navigation skills in a more organized environment. You may run or walk, go as an individual or as a group of 2 or 3. Orienteering is a cross country running sport, where participants use a map and compass to locate a series of control points which have been marked on the map. The person around the course in the shortest time is the winner. Required Items to Bring:
Compass, running shoes, appropriate water and food and clothing for a cross country running event.

Camping items and other gear for trips in and around Kimberly before or after the event.

Carpool Directions:   Carpools are to be arranged by individual members from the list of people as shown on the attendance list. Each member is responsible for their own transportation to this event, fuel costs and camping etc. Please contact the other members directly if they have indicated that they are willing to carpool.

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
