This course is aimed at novice to intermediate rock climbers with some indoor or outdoor climbing experience. Sport climbing leaders (leading with bolts) of all abilities will also find this course valuable in making the transition from bolts to trad protection. The curriculum would include: crack climbing techniques, gear placement evaluation, trad anchor construction, and leading strategies.

Harness, helmet, belay gloves, belay device with locking carabiner, rock shoes
Prerequisite: this is not a beginner course so some climbing experience is necessary. As a minimum, Participants should have at least climbed in a gym and must be able to offer a safe top-rope belay.

Sean Isaac is an ACMG alpine guide specializing in ice and mixed instruction. He has been ice climbing for 30 years and guiding for the past 20. He is the author of the ACC « Ice Climbing Leaders Field Handbook » and « How to Ice Climb » by Falcon. He has also written the how-to book « Mixed Climbing » and the guidebook « Mixed Climbs in the Canadian Rockies ».

No refunds are provided unless a suitable participant can be found.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
