Itinerary:
Advanced Waterfall Ice Leadership Weekend Are you leading, or thinking of leading, waterfall ice trips for the Alpine Club? Would you like to develop your leadership skills with instruction from an ACMG guide? Then read on! The ACC Calgary Section is hosting an “Advanced Waterfall Ice Leadership Weekend” course on January 26th and 27th , 2008, based in Canmore. This is designed to improve leadership skills and build confidence for those leading ACC trips on more difficult and longer terrain. Participants must have solid leading skills and be comfortable leading at least WI 3 multi-pitch climbs. This is a unique opportunity to learn with a small group of your peers on challenging and beautiful Rockies waterfall ice. Topics will include, but are not limited to: equipment selection and use, placing protection on lead, station management, rope skills, multi-pitch climbing and descending, risk management (ice fall, avalanche, mountain environment), attributes of a good leader, and choosing appropriate climbs for club trips. The course will be taught by Jeremy Mackenzie, an ACMG Ski Guide and Assistant Alpine Guide. Jeremy has been guiding and teaching with the Alpine Club for several years, including at the GMC, and has also taught mountain skills to Canadian military SAR Techs. There is no charge for the course, although a $150 deposit is required to hold your space. This will be returned to you after your participation in the course. Space is limited to 5 participants. Email your interest to Mark Lane (acc_markl@yahoo.com) to get an application form or for more detailed information. The deadline for registration is January 6th, 2008.
Required Items to Bring:
Personal ice climbing gear, including screws and quickdraws. Ropes will be provided by the club.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
