Itinerary:
One of the most spectacular treks in the world! The K2 base camp trek has some of the most amazing scenery on this planet. We are using the same agency that has been used by Nancy Hansen and her husband Ralf Dujmovits when they climb in the Karakoram. Conditions permitting, we will return via the spectacular Gondogoro La (5600m), a dramatic high col that affords further stunning views of not only the Gasherbrum peaks but also Broad Peak, K2 and the Muztagh Tower. We have also selected an itinerary that differs a bit from other K2 treks. Our agency is giving us 2 nights at the beginning of the trek in Islamabad to allow us to get over jet lag. In order to make up the extra day, we are planning on FLYING BOTH DIRECTIONS from Islamabad to Skardu. Yes, the drive is spectacular. Yes, it is also a huge pain and the most likely place where there may be “security incidents”. While the possibility of having any problems is very low, the advice we have taken from experienced Karakoram climbers is to fly both ways. “Don’t screw around. Pay the extra money and just fly,” suggested Steve Swenson, who has climbed in the Karakoram over 20 seasons.

This trip is self guided and locally catered. Participants will need a good knowledge of glacier travel, route finding, first aid and winter camping. A high level of fitness will also be required. Experience at altitude is not necessary.

Applications will be accepted for this trip until April 1 2021. Please email Robin with your application: robinsonofowen@gmail.com. He will go through the applications and successful applicants will be asked to pay a $1400 deposit by the end of January 2021 to secure a spot.

The preferred payment option for the deposit is to send an INTERAC e-transfer to the Treasurer treasurer@acccalgary.ca. Please ensure to send the password for accepting the e-transfer by separate email to the Treasurer. Also, you will need to give your full postal address, + detail of what the payment is for. But, please do not pay anything before Robin has confirmed you are accepted on the trip.

The cost is being discussed with the agency and is expected to be between $4000(+/-) excluding flights.

Required Items to Bring:
Gear list will be discussed at a later stage.

Must bring along a sense of fun and adventure!

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

If you need to cancel and no suitable replacement can be found for your spot then (depending when the cancellation is) you will lose the deposit. If cancelling after full payment has been made and no alternative is found then there will be no refund. Please check out cancellation insurance.
*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
