Itinerary:

How to suck less and be more better at…. is a monthly series designed to help facilitate ongoing peer learning. Speakers are volunteers who feel somewhat knowledgeable and are willing to help others achieve basic knowledge in an area- they are by no means experts, and may in fact not be the most knowledgeable person in attendance. The goal is to help improve the knowledge and skill level of all members who participate on mountain trips through regular skill updates. DIscussion and participant input is welcomed during sessions.

Chris is an experienced mountaineer and an apprentice ski guide. At 250 lb’s, he makes a great snow anchor and he can easily haul any rope mate out of a crevasse with one hand. However, anyone tied to Chris better know exactly what they are doing if he falls in, or the entire team is going in with him. Learn all the tips and tricks you can use to get yourself out of a crevasse especially if you are planning any travelling on glaciers in groups of 2 or 3, in which scenario no matter how big you or the person you're tied to is, you better have some practice under your belt if you want to get out of that hole in time for supper.

No matter what your level of experience, come on out and we can pactice our full size human cats and the cradle rope systems.

If you think you would have troubles pulling Chris out of a crevasse, come practice your crevasse rescue skills at the U of C and learn some tips and tricks to improve your overall rescue system. Summer mountaineering is around the corner and your mountaineering partners will appreciate it if you are well practiced and can fish ‘em out of a hole faster than a jack-in-the-box.

Required Items to Bring:
Gear to practice! (harness, helmet, warm clothes and your crevasse rescue gear) bring anything you think might help, pulleys, t-blocks, shoe laces, micro traction device, hollow block, etc. (If you don't own any of these gizmos do not run out and buy them, you can try out one of ours and if you like it then go out and buy it)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:   TBD

Notes:
** The ‘How to suck less and be more better at’ series is put on by volunteers, who are by no means experts or guides, just people who are willing to share some knowledge in an area. Discussion and participant input is welcomed.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
