*** Winter Mountaineering Course ***
Are you into winter scrambles, pushing the limits on snowshoe trips, or curious about the skills required to tag some summits in winter? Would you like to develop your winter mountaineering skills with instruction from an ACMG guide? Then read on!
The ACC Calgary Section is hosting a “Winter Mountaineering course” on Feb 23 and 24, 2013.
This is designed to review the set of skills needed to safely complete a trip to the mountains in winter conditions. Participants must have solid scrambling skills and be comfortable dealing with winter conditions. This is a unique opportunity to advance your skills alongside your peers, under the supervision of a highly experienced, fully qualified ACMG Mountain guide.
Topics may include, but are not limited to: route selection, route finding, gear selection, pacing, additional training required and choosing appropriate climbs.
The course will be taught by Cyril Shokoples, an internationally certified mountain guide. Cyril has a long history with the ACC, particularly teaching the flagship TNF Leadership courses. He also regularly trains Canadian military SARTECHs and Canadian Parks Service Wardens, amongst many others, and has received Distinguished Service Awards from both the ACC and the ACMG.
The cost for the weekend course is $160.
