Itinerary:
Whiteswan/Bull River Scrambles: I am planning a 5-7 day excursion into the Summer Lake area of the Bull River/Whiteswan area of B.C., starting on Tuesday, July 17, with the option of traveling up Queen Creek for an ascent of (Lower) Swanson and possibly even Flett Peak. Although I have climbed Empire State and Chrysler, two peaks to the E and NE of Summer Lake, all of the named peaks to the W remain mysteries to me – Ruault (8415’), Sneath (9016’), Haley (8947’), and Tanglefoot (8346’). I suspect that most, if not all, will be easy scrambles (but you never know). It is possible, too, that once we reach the main ridge crest, we could enchain the first three in a day. There is reasonable camping at Summer Lake (to which one can drive), and an easy 3 hr backpack up 2000’ takes one to Ruault Lake, tucked in nicely amongst alpine meadows. It’s a longish drive (5-6 hrs) to Summer Lake, so the mountain climbing will of necessity be bookended by truck travel. However, if we decide to ascend to Ruault Lake, we can likely do so on our initial driving day. If you think you might enjoy some remote terrain in the Rockies and ascents of exotic and unheralded peaks, give me a call at 246-8246 and leave a message (I will be away until Saturday). I will not be checking my e-mail on Sunday, July 15.
