Itinerary:
This month’s slide show will be a couple of climbing videos, each about 20mins long. The first features Alex Honnold’s free-solo of the 2,000ft North-West Face of Half-Dome (5.12), together with his solo climb of Moonlight Buttress in Zion, done as a ‘warm-up’ to Half Dome. The second is called ‘Cold’, and chronicles four climbers on the first winter ascent of Gasherbrum 2 in the Karakoram. Quote: “Experience Gasherbrum II in the middle of a deep, dark winter, as seen from the raw, honest perspective of alpinist and photographer Cory Richards. The film deftly captures the interweaving of pain, doubt, and fear — and reveals a harrowing descent that amplifies the isolation and exposure.” This film won the Grand Prize at the 2011 Banff Film Festival.
