Itinerary:

We'll meet at Petro Canada gas station off Hwy 1 at 4:50am on Saturday, October 8th, and depart at 5am sharp. The trail is some 60km long from Floe Lake parking to Marble Canyon parking lot. There are options to exit earlier along the way.

To participate you must be fit and comfortable with hiking in the dark. We do have 3 days for this but the current weather forecast for Monday is snow in that area, so we should push as far as possible every day. This makes it difficult to plan at which campgrounds we'd stay over night. My understanding is that if you have a yearly wilderness pass and there are free spots at the campground, you're ok to set up a tent.

We'll take two vehicles, leave one at Numa Creek parking lot (Paint Pots is apparently closed off; another option is Marble canyon), and the other one at Floe Lake parking lot. Please pack compact because we'll have to carpool between 2 parking lots. Another ACC member will join us, so the total number of participants is 4.

  • Saturday: Floe parking to Floe Lake to Numa Creek campground (~21km).
  • Sunday: Numa to Tumbling Creek to Helmet Falls (~19km)
  • Monday: Helmet/Ochre to Paint Pots (~15km) or to Marble Canyon (~20km)

Our average pace will be 2km/hr. Frequent short breaks are ok but lunch breaks will be short too.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:
Please review our participant responsibility guidelines!

*Cancellation Policy*: If a participant is unable to attend a paid course or trip, there will be no refund unless the participant finds a suitable replacement that is acceptable to the trip coordinator. Acceptable waiting list candidates will have priority. It will then be the participant's responsibility to recover funds from the replacement. If the coordinator cancels an event, participants get a refund (less any non-recoverable costs). Note that ACC National does not refund hut fees due to weather, delay, closures, or any other reasons. The Calgary Section of the ACC is a not for profit club and we only charge attendees what it costs us to provide courses or trips.
